You’ll need to let out your inner Indiana Jones in order to find these beautiful, hidden water falls and swimming holes. However, the work is worth the reward.
Tinago Falls, Philippines
Tinago Falls actually means “Hidden Falls.” In Iligan City, Philippines these falls require a 500 step hike before you can bask in its beauty. However, the falls aren’t the only reward you will receive. There is also a small cave underneath the fall that you can enter and listen to the water rumble against the rocks.
Playa del Amor, Mexico
Playa del Amor will certainly make you fall in love. The hidden cove and beach are only accessible via a water tunnel. You must swim 40-50 feet in order to reach the destination. However, there is also space above the water level to the rocks, so you won’t have to swim underwater the whole way. It’s definitely worth the swim.
Ik Kil Cenote, Mexico
Located on the Yucatán Peninsula and 85 feet below ground level, is the breath taking swimming hole, Ik Kil Cenote. The swimming hole is surrounded by vines and contains majestic turquoise water. The hole is also surrounded by small waterfalls, which makes this swimming hole even more magical.
Located on the White River, Gullfoss is definitely a sight to see. Although Iceland is know for its waterfalls, this may be the most beautiful. Gullfoss literally translates to Golden Falls. The river, Hvítá, rushes towards a wide curved three-step “staircase” and plunges down two stages. The average water running down the falls ranges from 80-140 cubic meters per second depending on the season.
Kuang Si Falls, Laos
Kuang Si is a multi-tiered waterfall that cascades into multiple blue pools. The pools are beyond welcoming to those who are able to find them. There are also trails in order to reach the top of the falls, however, the trails are steep and slippery. Take caution if you decide to take these paths.
Fairy Pools, Scotland
Although they sound welcoming, the Fairy Pools are beautiful to see but may be too cold to enter. However, if you are daring enough to take a dip in these crystal-clear waters, feel free. Trails take adventurers to waterfalls and pools, that are secluded and serene.
