Movies Sites You Can Visit

Movies transport audiences into magical worlds, letting viewers live through the eyes of heroes (and villains) in unknown places. However, that is not entirely true, as movies use real life locations for some of their filming. Many of these places you can actually visit and take a walk in the footsteps of your favorite character.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade – Al-Khazneh, Petra, Jordan

Travelfuntu - Indiana Jones & Petra

Indiana Jones, played by Harrison Ford, would travel exotic lands looking for priceless, ancient object. But, of course, he would also encounter people who would always cause some trouble along the journey. In “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” Indy is searching for his father that went missing while searching for the Holy Grail. His search takes him to many wondrous places such as Petra. In the film, the 2,300-year-old city is mesmerizing and wondrous. However, no editing was needed here. Petra is actually just how it looks in the film, and you can go visit it.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Skellig Michael, County Kerry, Ireland

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” killed it at the box office. Creators used amazing CGI to bring viewers into the period of civil unrest amongst the galaxy. However, they also used real life locations. (SPOILER) At the end of the film, Rey is seen climbing up a mountain. A mountain where is thought to be the first Jedi temple as well as where Luke Skywalker is hiding. Star Wars fans can visit this mountain as it is actually Skellig Michael, an island in Ireland.

Dirty Dancing – Firefly Cove, Lake Lure, North Carolina

“Dirty Dancing” has multiple memorable scenes. However, one many cannot forget was the scene when Baby finally hits the lift, while practicing in the lake with Johnny. Of course, she fell in the water soon after. But, it was a foreshadowing of her final lift that was to come. These scenes were actually filmed in Lake Lure, in South Carolina. Locals say many tourists come to the lake to re-enact that moment.
